I was driving through the town that I lived in as a small child and decided to go see the house I once lived in. As I came up to the property I noticed that the house had recently been torn down. I was shocked my childhood home was now gone. I stood on the ground where the house used to be and thought of old memories I had of living here. A neighbor noticed me and started to tell me to leave and not trespass. I explained to her that this used to be my childhood home and she calmed down. She told me to walk over to her and tell her who I am. Once I told her my name and my dad's name she lit up. She remembered my family. We spoke a while about where we moved to and what I've done with my life. I was telling her a story about an old dog we used to have bit had to remove him when we moved. She looked wide eyed at me and told me that the dog was still alive and that her daughter had him on her farm. I couldn't believe it. This dog had to be over 30 years old. How could he still be alive. I asked her if she could take me to se him and she agreed to. Once we were at the farm her daughter greeted me and tool me to where the dog was. He looked so old and worn down but could still walk. I sat on the ground next to him and let him smell me. He was a bit weary of me at first but something clicked in him. He perked up and he started licking me and wagging his tail. He somehow remembered me after all these years. I wrapped him in a big hug and started to cry. I couldn't believe that nearly 30 years later I was hugging my former family dog. He eventually wore himself out and went back to his dog bed to lay down. We decided to go in the house and talk more. After a while I needed to leave and wanted to say goodbye to my old dog. We walked over to his bed and tried to get his attention but he didn't move. I put my hand on him and could tell he had passed away. We all broke down crying. Why now after all this time did he pass away. The daughter got on one of her tractors and began digging a large hile near an old tree. We wrapped him in a blanket and let him down gently into the grave. She fished the dirt back over him and placed a cross in the soft dirt. This would be the last time we got to see that good boy. I left the farm and drove away still crying.
